Minimum Requirements

Candidates must meet the following criteria:

• Education: Grade 12 or NQF Level 3 in a relevant field.
• Experience: 12 months of relevant horticultural experience.
• Skills:
  • Ability to operate specialised horticultural machinery, such as chainsaws and ride-on mowers.
  • Basic safety knowledge.
  • Capability to complete tasks independently without constant supervision.
• Driver’s Licence:
  • Code 08 / EB driver’s licence.
  • Ability to pass Rand Water's K53 driving test.

Primary Duties

1. Irrigation Systems:
   • Installation and maintenance.
2. Indoor Plant Care:
   • Maintenance of indoor plants.
3. Fertilisation and Pest Control:
   • Application of fertilisers, compost, mulches, and pesticides.
4. Material Handling:
   • Loading and offloading goods, machines, plants, and debris.
5. Machinery Operation:
   • Use specialised horticultural equipment.
6. Special Assignments:
   • Assist with decorations and construction when needed.
7. Field Maintenance:
   • Upkeep of specialised sports and recreational fields.
8. Site Maintenance:
   • General horticultural maintenance of assigned sites.

Required Knowledge

• Specialised horticulture, turfgrass, and landscaping techniques.
• Basic plant knowledge, including plant identification and propagation.
• Knowledge of water-wise principles.
• Operation of specialised horticultural machinery.
• Basic safety practices.
