Job Description

The Flight Inspector Traineeship Programme is designed to train graduates in the specialized field of flight inspection and calibration of air navigation systems, according to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. The trainees will be involved in various critical tasks that ensure the safety and operational integrity of aviation systems in South Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Training in Flight Inspection Mission Planning: Learn how to prepare and plan flight inspection missions.
  • Flight Inspection Missions: Participate in the execution of flight inspections, collecting data for technical analysis and reporting, and adjusting air navigation systems to meet ICAO standards.
  • Reporting and Data Management: Collate and compile flight inspection reports, maintain databases, and issue necessary notices such as NOTAMs (Notice to Airmen) based on inspection outcomes.
  • Safety and Quality Standards: Conduct all activities in compliance with ICAO, ISO, and airworthiness regulations, ensuring facilities support associated instrument flight procedures.
  • Technical Support: Provide support and recommendations for client technological systems, and respond to special requests relating to system upkeep and development.
  • Communications and Safety Promotions: Promote safety awareness and project a positive image of the Flight Inspection Unit to stakeholders.

Minimum Requirements

  • National Diploma in Electrical Engineering (Light Current) or a related NQF Level 6 Qualification.

Ideal Requirements

  • BTech in Electrical Engineering (Light Current).
  • Experience as an Air Communication and Navigational Systems Engineer or in Communication Navigation Surveillance (3 years).
