Job Description
The NDMC Bursary Programme is designed to support students who are passionate about disaster management and related fields. Bursary recipients will have their educational expenses covered, allowing them to focus on their studies and research without financial strain. The programme also aims to build a pool of skilled professionals who can contribute to disaster risk reduction and management in South Africa.
Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for the NDMC Bursary Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Citizenship: Must be a South African citizen.
- Educational Background:
- Completed Matric.
- Studying or intending to study towards an Undergraduate, Postgraduate, or Master’s qualification in one of the specified fields (excluding Certificate courses and PhD qualifications).
- Must be studying or have applied to study at a public institution of higher learning in South Africa.
- Academic Performance:
- Undergraduate applicants: Minimum overall average of 60% in Matric NSC.
- Postgraduate applicants: Minimum overall average of 60% in the most recent results.
- Enrolled students: Minimum overall average of 65% in mid-year results.
- Income Threshold:
- Total individual income should be less than R350,000 per year if employed.
- Total household income should be less than R350,000 per year if unemployed.
Required Documents
Applicants must submit the following documents when applying (incomplete applications may be disqualified):
- Certified Copy of ID Document
- Certified Copy of Matric Certificate
- Proof of Application/ Acceptance/ Registration at a public tertiary institution (on institution's letterhead)
- Most Recent Academic Results (on institution's letterhead, if currently studying)
- Short Curriculum Vitae (maximum 2 pages)
- Proof of Household Income: Latest payslips if employed, affidavit if unemployed, proof of grant or pension if applicable.
- Proof of Own Income: Latest payslips if employed.
- Postgraduate Applicants: Latest academic results/ transcripts and qualification (on institution's letterhead)
- Masters Applicants: Concept note of proposed Masters research on one of the 16 Priority Thematic Areas, available on the bursary application system (1 to 2 pages).
