Who Qualify to Receive Social Relief of Distress Grant

meant for South African Citizens, Refugees, Asylum Seekers and Special Permit Holders who are between the ages of 18 and 60 years, who have insufficient means, who do not receive social grants on behalf of herself/ himself or who are not contributing to or eligible for UIF payment, and have no financial support from any other source.

Here's why your sassa was declined

Alternative income source identified 

The applicant had funds flowing into their bank account of more than the threshold for the given period: R595 for August 2021 to March 2022; R350 for April 2022 to July 2022 and R624 for August 2022 to March 2023.

Identity verification failed 

Personal details provided at the time of application do not match the details received from the department of home affairs.

Existing Sassa grant 

The applicant was a recipient of a social grant for her/himself during the application period.

Debtor

The applicant was paid R350 in a month (or more) when they did not qualify. The error was picked up and the money was withheld to correct that error. 

Payments will resume if the client still qualifies once all outstanding R350 payments are recovered.

Nsfas registered 

The applicant was in receipt of the National Student Financial Aid Scheme during the specific period.

UIF registered 

The applicant is registered with the Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) or received a payout during the period.

What does it mean when Sassa says approved?

Approved. The application was approved for the period. The client should check the pay day field for an indication of when they will receive their money. If no pay day value is provided, no payment has been processed as yet.

How to make your Grant Approved by applying for Appeal

  1. Visit https://srd.dsd.gov.za/;
  2. Click on the green bar that says "click here to lodge an appeal or check appeal status";
  3. Enter your ID number;
  4. Enter your cellphone number;
  5. Click "send pin" and wait for the SMS which will contain the verification pin;
  6. Enter the pin and click "submit";
  7. Select the month for which you are submitting an appeal;
  8. Select the drop-down arrow and choose the reason for your appeal;
  9. Click "submit.
