Programme Overview
SAFCOL’s Apprenticeship Programme is designed to give unemployed youth a comprehensive learning experience, covering both theoretical and practical skills. The programme will last for three years, during which apprentices will be trained in a variety of artisan trades.
Artisan Trades Available:
- Millwright
- Fitter & Turner
- Diesel Mechanic (Motor Trade)
- Boiler Making
- Electrical
Programme Benefits:
- Training: Apprentices will be enrolled at a recognised training centre to cover both theory and practical learning.
- Workplace Training: All practical training will take place at SAFCOL’s Timbadola Sawmill.
- Monthly Stipend: Apprentices will receive a monthly stipend throughout the training duration.
- Preference: Priority will be given to Previously Disadvantaged Individuals, people with disabilities, females, and youths from communities near SAFCOL plantations.
Completion and Certification:
Upon successfully completing the training, apprentices will undergo a final Trade Test. This assessment is conducted in line with the Skills Development Act to certify individuals as qualified artisans.
Minimum Requirements
To apply for this apprenticeship, you must meet the following criteria:
- Be a South African citizen.
- Be unemployed and between the ages of 19 to 35.
- Grade 12 (this is recommended, but not a strict requirement).
- Have at least an N2 or Level 3 TVET certificate with the relevant trade theory.
